European Space Agency

Noordwijk, Netherlands

The landscape design for the ESA ESTEC campus reimagines the site as an extension of the Dutch dune ecosystem, harmonizing ecological preservation with essential functionality. The proposal emphasizes the integration of native dune species to establish a biodiverse environment that strengthens the site’s green infrastructure and fosters ecological continuity.

At its center lies a pivotal area defined by an elliptical, three-dimensional plane, whose geometric construction is inspired by the planetary trajectories and their orbital angles. These celestial patterns are translated into tangible landforms, shaping pathways, elevated viewpoints, and offering a dynamic spatial experience.

This sculptural landscape is a gateway to space. A vibrant, multifunctional space that accommodates diverse activities, including daily leisure, cultural events, and programs designed to communicate the European Space Agency’s mission. Satellites and rockets may punctuate the landscape, transforming the campus into a common ground that unites employees, visitors, and passionate about astronomy and outer space exploration.
