Šlapanice Sugar Factory played an important role in the history of the town, with its chimney being a consolidated urban landmark for its citizens.

The public space of Sugar Factory will become an inclusive post-industrial landscape. The programmatic mix of the buildings extends outdoor, creating a variety of landscapes suitable for different uses and target groups. Oriented towards environmental and economical sustainability, the strategy proposes the preservation of the existing concrete slab flooring, addressing water permeability and vegetal propagation though a broad range of possible joints. While preserving the materic identity of the site, the space will be colonised by pioneer vegetation, generating a new hybrid environment able to merge the industrial soul of the site with a strong ecological vocation.
